“What would you think if I sang out of tune, would you stand up and walk out on me?” this is the first line in The Beatles 1967 hit song With a Little Help From my Friends. Now imagine yourself in one of our escape rooms, you are going to have a lot of ideas, some good, some…a bit “out of tune” but that’s O.K! Our games are all about helping each other out and helping your friends, as a team it is your friends’ job to stick with you and build on those ideas. “I get by with a little help from my friends.” That is really what it is about, the only way to solve all of the puzzles in a room within an hour is with the help of your friends.
You might think to yourself “help! I need somebody” but of course you cannot just have anybody’s help, no not just anybody. That is what the Game Master is there for. When you were younger, so much younger then today, you probably did not need anybody’s help in anyway. But now that those days are gone, you are not so self-assured. But that is alright because you are more open minded and willing to accept help from others and actually try your ideas. Your Game Master is your team coach, rooting for you from the sidelines. They want a big win but can only do so much to help you out. So next time you’re in an escape game and feeling like “the fool on the hill”, don’t be afraid to ask for help. Seeking help on a challenging idea is a great way to get new input on a problem. Use that red phone and get a clue when you are feeling stuck and “take a sad song and make it better”.
